FB StandardStats IconWhile working on a review of StandardStats from FeedBurner, the only real negative thing I could come up with was the fact that the install wasn’t simple for non-techies. Sure it’s easy for some, but I thought it could be easier. So I created the FeedBurner StandardStats WordPress plugin.

FB StandardStats makes installing FeedBurner’s stats code simple. No files to edit and no wondering if you got the code in the right place. Simply put in your user ID and the plugin will do the rest.

As a bonus, the plugin can also be used to show FeedFlare links on each blog post.

To Install:

  1. Download FB StandardStats 1.0b
  2. Upload fb_standardstats.php to the /plugins/ directory of your blog.
  3. Activate via the Plugins area in WordPress’ admin.
  4. Go to the FB StandardStats options page and enter your StandardStats ID. Instructions on finding this ID are on the FB StandardStats options page.

That’s it. The plugin automatically enters in the code to the template files and you’ll start getting stats as soon as you get visitors.

Let me know what issues you run across and any success stories too. I’ve got it running on three blogs including this one and it seems to work fine.

Note: The plugin has been tested under WordPress 2.0.2, 2.0.7 and 2.1 with no issues. It also has been tested by FeedBurner and there appears to be no issues. However, I can’t guarantee it’s bug free. Backup your blog to be safe as I’d feel really bad if something went wrong.

Releases:

  • 1.0b – 2/6/2007 – Updated to not display code from feed.
  • 1.0a – 2/2/2007 – Initial version.

    Thomas,
nothing shows up anywhere on my site. I’ve registered at feedburner and added my ID to the feedburner options page, but where do the stats show? On my site or do I have to go to feedburner and log in to see them?
    thanks.

  13. hi,

I run this meta-blog and the plugin only seems to be working in the pages, not on the main page! The posts individually point to the original websites. I have it setup on another blog (running 2.3) and it works fine, but not on this one, running 2.0.11.

    best
    b

  14. kev – Did you get everything up and running?

Bruno – I’m not sure your issue. Look at the source of your blog, the code is on the main page and should be tracking.

  15. No, the code for MY blog is not on the main page, or I am going nuts. But the stats from feedburner.com show me I’m not. My user is BlogsDeCiencia. This is a meta-blog that gets posts from other blogs, using their feeds. This means, that sometimes I get other’s feedburner links they have in their feed (because they also use feedburner).

If you open http://divulgarciencia.com/sobre-nos/ , you have in the source code,

    http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/BlogsDeCiencia?i=http://divulgarciencia.com/sobre-nos/

But if you open the main page, you don’t. only the others… :-) The weird thing is that it shows up in some posts of categories pages! How about that? In http://divulgarciencia.com/categoria/psicologia/, only some posts have it.

  16. I found the problem!! The problem lies within wordpress plugin feedwordpress that sets an insanely high and low priorities in a hook to the the_content. it reverses back any changes any plugin does, of course. Priority -10000 and +10000 :-)

I commented the line and it seems to be working fine now, finally ! Thanks!

  17. Glad you found the fix Bruno.

  18. Jill says:

Guys, I ‘m having a problem similar to what Bruno describes re: reversing back changes so that new posts do not have the feedflare line of links on my posts. I keep updated the index.php and the home.php and then it shows up.

Will your plugin solve that? Thanks very much.

  19. I actually ended up putting the add_filter hook in this plugin to the categories. So I don’t have a problem anymore with the the_content filter hook. I had to change where it gets put because I am using the_excerpt_reloaded… :-)

Putting it in the categories makes sense for everyone that is displaying categories. Now, some themes might not…

  32. Justin says:

Anybody get it to work w/ wp 2.6.2? Trying to narrow down if it’s the theme i’m using or if it’s the the newest version of wordpress.

  33. Justin says:

When I enter my feedburner stats ID it says “Cannot load fb_standardstats.php.”

I’m one of the non technical people that this was created for, very interested in responses!

    Thanks

  34. Thomas says:

I’ll have to research WordPress 2.6.2 issues. Sorry for the delay.
