FeedBurner StandardStats Wordpress Plugin
While working on a review of StandardStats from FeedBurner, the only real negative thing I could come up with was the fact that the install wasn’t simple for non-techies. Sure it’s easy for some, but I thought it could be easier. So I created the FeedBurner StandardStats Wordpress plugin.
FB StandardStats makes installing FeedBurner’s stats code simple. No files to edit and no wondering if you got the code in the right place. Simply put in your user ID and the plugin will do the rest.
As a bonus, the plugin can also be used to show FeedFlare links on each blog post.
To Install:
- Download FB StandardStats 1.0b
- Upload fb_standardstats.php to the /plugins/ directory of your blog.
- Activate via the Plugins area in Wordpress’ admin.
- Go to the FB StandardStats options page and enter your StandardStats ID. Instructions on finding this ID are on the FB StandardStats options page.
That’s it. The plugin automatically enters in the code to the template files and you’ll start getting stats as soon as you get visitors.
Let me know what issues you run across and any success stories too. I’ve got it running on three blogs including this one and it seems to work fine.
Note: The plugin has been tested under Wordpress 2.0.2, 2.0.7 and 2.1 with no issues. It also has been tested by FeedBurner and there appears to be no issues. However, I can’t guarantee it’s bug free. Backup your blog to be safe as I’d feel really bad if something went wrong.
Releases:
- 1.0b - 2/6/2007 - Updated to not display code from feed.
- 1.0a - 2/2/2007 - Initial version.

Nice, Thomas - Feedburner’s stats are a pretty cool thing, but they are lacking in ease to install. Or, perhaps I should say _were_ lacking in ease to install!
[...] Thomas McMahon, from TopRank Online Marketing and Blogger Design has created a handy little plugin for installing your Feedburner Standard Stats. [...]
This is pretty cool!
Thomas - you’re incredible! Another great plug-in. Thanks for all the work you put into making it easy.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. So far all I’m hearing are positive things.
I did make a few very minor updates to the plugin to avoid the logo cops though. It’s FeedBurner not Feedburner.
Congratulations on making the home page of FeedBurner and the Publisher Buzz blog.

didn’t work on my wordpress 2.1 blog. Can’t activate the plugin. Seems plugin, version, and description mixed up.
@Aoyoyo
Yep, same thing here. The plugin page is messed up, but option page is good and the plugin is working fine. Look forward for update, the plugin is awesome indeed.
p.s. I am running on WP 2.1
One thing I forgot to mention: my WP2.1 is updated from WP2.0.7.
What an excellent idea for a plugin! Could you pleeeeeeeaaaaasssseeee fix it for Wordpress 2.1? It looks bogged in the plugin management screen now.
Aoyoyo, Jaux, Johan and everyone else
I think there was a problem on Thomas’ side while saving the plugin information and save format (I think). I have saved it in a proper text format available @ http://ajaxed.net/fb_standardstats.zip
Download that copy and replace the existing one. This should show up properly in the plugin management screen.
Thanks for that AJ! Downloading your file fixed the problem for me
I’ve emailed AJ to see if I can’t figure out what the issue might have been. I haven’t had any issues with WP 2.1 so it must all be in the packaging or the hosting. Humm……
So far, I see that AJ didn’t include the folder or readme and also renamed the file phps.
Thanks for all the feedback. I’ll get the packaging sorted out.
Hi all,
I have just moved the plugin zip to http://ajaxed.net/downloads/fb_standardstats.zip (Had put it there in a hurry)
Please use this link henceforth. The previous link will not work.
Hi Thomas,
That was mistake on my part to have made it phps. It should be php. I have made the change in the zip file as well.
Thanks. It works great. But why you have to name the file fb_standardstats.PHPS? Just curious.
Aoyoyo, that was an error on my part. Originally I wanted to set it up as a php source download then decided against it since there was no page where I could detail the steps which would require the change from phps to php
I have updated the formatting in my zip file linked to from step 1 above. I hope it fixes all issues. If not, let me know.
Hi
I’m in the process of migrating from Blogger to WordPress and I’ve installed this plugin.
The instructions read; ‘To find your FeedBurner Stats ID, log into your FeedBurner account and choose your feed. Click on the Analyze tab then click on the StandardStats link. Choose Wordpress from the drop down menu…’
I don’t have a drop down menu (with or without Wordpress as an option); FeedBurner still expects a source RSS feed to burn.
Thanks
Stephen - Have you activated StandardStats in your Feedburner account? If not, you should do that and then the drop down will appear.
Yes. I’ve used FeedBurner with my Blogger blog for quite some time. I belive I was one of their first customers.
Stephen - Feedburner is one service and StandardStats is an addon. Please ensure that you activated the StandardStats option as part of your Feedburner account. If you have already done this, then let me know what options show when you click on the StandardStats link in the left column.
Thank you, Thomas! Great plugin and now it’s working perfectly!

[...] When I built the FB StandardStats plugin I built it to make it easy to add in the necessary code to get the new StandardStats up and running. People mentioned that it worked with FeedFlare but it didn’t hit me until today how cool this plugin really was! “FeedFlare allows publishers to easily build ‘interactivity’ into the content they create, making it simple for subscribers to tag, email or share their content with others. Publishers can include a variety of services including a live display of the number of comments to each post, the ability to email the author directly and show the number of blogs that link to their item. Publishers can choose to include FeedFlare within the feed itself as well as on their blog or site.” [...]

hi,
I run this meta-blog and the plugin only seems to be working in the pages, not on the main page! The posts individually point to the original websites. I have it setup on another blog (running 2.3) and it works fine, but not on this one, running 2.0.11.
best
b
kev - Did you get everything up and running?
Bruno - I’m not sure your issue. Look at the source of your blog, the code is on the main page and should be tracking.
No, the code for MY blog is not on the main page, or I am going nuts. But the stats from feedburner.com show me I’m not. My user is BlogsDeCiencia. This is a meta-blog that gets posts from other blogs, using their feeds. This means, that sometimes I get other’s feedburner links they have in their feed (because they also use feedburner).
If you open http://divulgarciencia.com/sobre-nos/ , you have in the source code,
http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/BlogsDeCiencia?i=http://divulgarciencia.com/sobre-nos/
But if you open the main page, you don’t. only the others…
The weird thing is that it shows up in some posts of categories pages! How about that? In http://divulgarciencia.com/categoria/psicologia/, only some posts have it.
I found the problem!! The problem lies within wordpress plugin feedwordpress that sets an insanely high and low priorities in a hook to the the_content. it reverses back any changes any plugin does, of course. Priority -10000 and +10000
I commented the line and it seems to be working fine now, finally ! Thanks!
Glad you found the fix Bruno.
Guys, I ‘m having a problem similar to what Bruno describes re: reversing back changes so that new posts do not have the feedflare line of links on my posts. I keep updated the index.php and the home.php and then it shows up.
Will your plugin solve that? Thanks very much.
I actually ended up putting the add_filter hook in this plugin to the categories. So I don’t have a problem anymore with the the_content filter hook. I had to change where it gets put because I am using the_excerpt_reloaded…
Putting it in the categories makes sense for everyone that is displaying categories. Now, some themes might not…
