Oh right, well I did some searching in the wordpress database and found this http://henning.imaginemore.de/pluginstaller/
Can install a plugin without uploading via ftp, and you can update them with 1 click of a button.

Yea, after a bit of research, it’s not really automatic updates. It’s automatic update checking. You still have to manually download an install them. Sad but true.

3) Auto Updates
If a plugin is hosted on WordPress.org, or if it ties into the new API, it’ll now check for updates automatically and notify you on the plugins page. No more wondering which plugins are out of date. WordPress as a whole should do the same thing.

How do you go about using this, I have a number of plugins out of date, how do I do about having them automatically updated?

Instant upgrade worked perfectly .
Its a brill upgrade though all the new features, can delete a lot of plugins now.
