The problem is that if the IP is shared by others, you could end up blocking innocent users. I was confident with my block as it was based in Germany. If you can keep track of the IP for a little while, and determine that they are always the same, then block away. You should be just fine.

Yeah I get a lot of those too. The problem is that if the IP is shared by others, you could end up blocking innocent users. I would just like to add a point to it that say If its myspace, stop being an idiot and accepting friend requests from each one you get, because no they don't want to be your friends, they are spamming robots, and having 4956 friends doesn't change the fact you dont' have any.</p>

I agree with your views to some extent …but atleast which glitter may be by off chance OFF is a gold….That’s the trend …you can’t disregard it….but yeah must go by the quality of comments that whether they makes any sense w.r.t. your blog or not.. I think #6 is the new technique that doesn't have a fix yet. If you can identify the scraper though server logs, then you may be able to block them in your robots.txt file. Then again, they could be scraping Technorati or Google Blog Search results and not you directly. If anyone has any suggestions, please do share.

That’s a great question Josh. I think #6 is the new technique that doesn’t have a fix yet. Any ideas on preventing the scrappers so they don't get my content in the first place?

I have been getting a lot of point #6 for the last week now.
